Friction Creates Static: Grinding coffee creates friction, generating static electricity that makes grounds stick to the grinder, portafilter, and counter.
Water Neutralizes Static: A tiny bit of water provides a conductive path, neutralizing the static charge and allowing grounds to fall freely.
How it Works
Apply Moisture: Lightly mist beans with a spray bottle or use a damp spoon to introduce a tiny bit of water.
Distribute: Gently stir or shake the beans to spread the moisture evenly.
Grind: Grind as usual; the water neutralizes static charges.
Benefits
Reduces Static: Prevents grounds from clinging to the grinder, chute, and portafilter.
Minimizes Waste: More grounds end up in your cup, not stuck in the machine.
Improves Consistency: Leads to more even grounds and better extractions.
Considerations
Use Sparingly: Too much water can harm your grinder or beans.
Check Manufacturer Guidelines: Some grinder makers advise against it, but it's generally fine if done lightly.
